For a while, we built websites for small businesses. AI tools had made them faster and cheaper to produce than ever, and we were good at it. So it might sound strange to say: we don't build websites any more.

This is the honest version of why — and what we do instead.

A website was never the thing that grew the business

Here's the pattern we saw again and again. A client would get a smart new site. It looked great. Traffic came in. And then… not much changed. The enquiries that did arrive still sat in an inbox overnight. Follow-up still depended on someone remembering. The same questions still got answered by hand, one at a time. The website was the storefront, but the work that actually turned interest into customers was happening — or not happening — behind it.

The site was rarely the bottleneck. What happened after a visitor arrived was.

What AI actually changed

As AI tools matured, two things became clear at the same time.

First, building a website stopped being scarce. When a decent site can be produced quickly and cheaply, doing that well is no longer a durable advantage for a client — or a service worth leading with.

Second, and more importantly, the valuable, hard problems moved. They moved to the work behind the scenes — the repetitive, multi-step processes a team still does by hand — and to a brand-new question: when someone asks ChatGPT or Perplexity a question you should be the answer to, do you even come up?

That's where we decided to put our effort.

What we do now

Three things, plus local traffic for service businesses that need it.

AI workflow automation (built with n8n)

We connect the tools a business already uses so repetitive, multi-step work runs by itself — capturing and routing enquiries, syncing data between apps, scheduled reports, invoicing, onboarding, follow-up. It's the work that quietly eats hours, done automatically. If you want the detail, we wrote a full guide to workflow automation with n8n.

AI agents

Where a task needs judgement rather than a fixed set of rules — qualifying a lead from a messy message, answering a support question, updating the CRM — we deploy AI agents: autonomous workers that handle those jobs and hand off to a human when they should.

AI visibility

We audit whether AI answer engines — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Google AI Overviews — mention and recommend you, and we fix the gaps. As buyer research shifts into AI answers, being cited there is becoming as important as ranking on Google once was.

Automations vs agents, in one line: a workflow automation is a deterministic pipeline that runs the same steps every time; an AI agent is an autonomous worker that makes judgement calls. The best setups use an automation for the plumbing and an agent (or an AI step) only where judgement is needed.

"But I have a website — or was going to ask you for one"

Most of what we do connects to a website you already have. We don't need to have built it. If you have a site, we:

What we don't do is design or rebuild the site itself. If you need a new website, you'll be better served by a dedicated web studio — and then we can make everything around it run automatically.

The bigger point

Following the value sometimes means walking away from something you're good at. A website is a storefront; it matters, but on its own it doesn't grow a business. The compounding advantages now are automating the repetitive work, deploying agents for the judgement-heavy work, and being present in the AI answers your buyers increasingly trust. That's the business we chose to be in.

Frequently asked questions

Do you still build websites?

No. We retired website building as a service. We now focus on AI workflow automation (built with n8n), AI agents, and AI visibility. If you already have a website, we can improve what happens around it — capturing enquiries, routing and following up automatically, and answering common questions with an agent — but we don't design or rebuild the site itself.

I already have a website — can you still help?

Yes. Most of our work connects to a site you already have. We automate the enquiry flow behind it (form to CRM to instant reply to follow-up), deploy agents to handle repetitive questions and qualifying, and audit whether AI answer engines mention you. The website stays yours; we make the work around it run automatically.

Why did you move away from websites?

A good-looking website was never the thing that grew a business — what happened after a visitor arrived was. As AI tools made sites cheap and fast to produce, the real, defensible value moved to automating the work behind the scenes and being found in AI answers. We followed the value.

What do you focus on now?

Three things: AI workflow automation with n8n (connecting your tools and automating repetitive processes), AI agents (autonomous workers for sales, support, CRM and task routing), and AI visibility (making sure ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google AI Overviews surface your business). Local traffic packages for service businesses sit alongside these.
